With professional sports suspended amid the global pandemic, Excel was one of the first traditional sports agencies to pivot into esports, working with some of the biggest brands and providing our clients with a way to remain competitive and engage with fans.  Our marketing and sales team switched gears and ventured into the realm of esports. As it became clear that we may be without live sports for quite some time, our athletes quickly pivoted to gaming as a way to remain competitive and even engage with fans.

Our team played a role in coordinating the inaugural NBA 2K Players Tournament, procuring talent for the event. Excel clients Harrison Barnes, DeMarcus Cousins, Andre Drummond and Hassan Whiteside each competed in the tournament.

In addition to the activity from our talent clients, we expanded our horizons from a corporate perspective as well. Our Brand Marketing and Sales team struck deals with HyperX to procure talent for the HyperX Showdown – an eight-week event that featured a series of online gaming events including Call of Duty: Warzone, NBA 2K, Fortnite, Madden, and more. Excel clients DeMarcus Cousins, Mikal Bridges, Onyeka Okongwu, Cole Anthony, and Joc Pederson each participated in events hosted by HyperX.

Our Properties Team began working with notable esports organization, NRG, and also negotiated a deal with Activision Blizzard to secure marquee sponsorships for the Overwatch League and Call of Duty League—our biggest deal in the esports industry to-date. #exceling
