To celebrate Juneteenth this year, we’re focusing on an essential element to any good celebration – food! Gathering together with food is a tradition upheld by many cultures and communities alike. This year, we’re commemorating Juneteenth by honoring Black food culture and its impact on mainstream American cuisine. One of the main elements of all Juneteenth celebrations is the inclusion of soul food, which is typically prepared for picnics, family reunions and cookouts on June 19th each year.

Through an initiative led by Black at Excel (BAE) and in celebration of the holiday, we have encouraged the entire team at Excel to expense lunch from a Black-owned restaurant to show our appreciation for the community and observance of Juneteenth. Employees are also encouraged to learn more about African American food history and traditions by watching ‘High on the Hog’ – a Netflix documentary that highlights how African American cuisine transformed America.
